Beaufort MEC Responds to the Marine Corps Times

Those who follow this blog are probably well aware of the slanted narrative that MCRD Parris Island has insurmountable problems with rising sea levels. It was disheartening to see the latest version of this argument come from the Marine Corps Times in their recent article on the future of Marine Corps installations published on 23 February. But no matter who pushes this misguided viewpoint, the Beaufort MEC will always remind the public that United States Marines are built to adapt and overcome any adversity and the idea that Parris Island cannot do the same is just plain wrong. The MEC has sent the attached letter to the editor of the Marine Corps Times to voice our support of the second oldest base in the Marine Corps and we hope you share our same feelings of confidence and pride in MCRD Parris Island.

The Military Enhancement Committee (MEC) of Beaufort County Support Fund is a charitable fund administered by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. Its mission is to enhance the quality and value of the military installations of Beaufort County, namely, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, Naval Air Station Beaufort, and Beaufort Naval Hospital. The MEC seeks to defend these installations against any threats like closure or natural disaster, while also positioning them for enhancement through personnel, resources, and other opportunities that both benefit the Department of Defense and our region.
